Stephen Curry gets jealous of LeBron James as Warriors angle to follow up Luka Doncic trade with move of their own

Trade deadlines in any sport can be exciting if there’s enough movement, but the NBA took it up to a whole new level with a trade that sent shockwaves throughout the basketball world. In a trade that still feels surreal to many fans and players, Luka Doncic was traded to from the Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davis and was introduced as a new Los Angeles Lakers player on Tuesday.

In the aftermath of the Doncic-Davis trade, and with the deadline approaching, other teams appear to have gotten the itch to make moves. By all accounts, it’s the Golden State Warriors who seem likely to try to appease Stephen Curry by paring him with another star. With a limited amount of big names available, they have set their sights on Philadelphia 76ers disgruntled star Paul George.

Golden State Warriors are interested in trading for Paul George

On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that the Warriors are “calling about every All-Star player“. George’s name came up, as did LeBron James and Kevin Durant. But on Tuesday, the Warriors-George link was amplified, as Philly Inquirer writer Keith Pompey reported that the Warriors, as well as the Atlanta Hawks, are very interested in George.

It’s clear that: 1) the 76ers want to get out of George’s contract and 2) the Warriors want any type high-profile player to pair with Curry. That could very well be enough to make the trade happen.

When is the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline?

The Warriors don’t have too much time to make a move, so they will have to work quickly in order to decide if it’s worth mortgaging some of their future to secure George. The NBA Trade Deadline is officially at 3pm ET on Thursday, February 6.

Ironing out details of a trade, given all of the contract and salary cap implications is difficult in and of itself; as is deciding on the right compensation by both teams – or multiple teams – in a trade. Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy has his work cut out for him.
