Kenneth Walker III landing spots take shape as the Seattle Seahawks will move on form the Super Bowl MVP

The NFL free agency frenzy is officially set to begin on March 11, and the landscape is shifting rapidly as teams scramble to protect their most valuable assets. We’ve already seen the Colts lock up Daniel Jones after a career-redefining year, the Cowboys secure George Pickens following a breakout All-Pro caliber season, and the Jets place the franchise tag on Breece Hall to anchor their backfield.

However, while some doors are closing, others are swinging wide open. Kyler Murray appears to be on his way out of Arizona after seven seasons and limited playoff success, but the biggest shocker comes from Seattle. Despite being the reigning Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker III has not been issued the franchise tag, allowing him to test the open market while his stock is at an all-time high.

Best Landing Spots for Kenneth Walker III: Which Teams Can Afford the NFL’s Top Free Agent?

The competition for Walker’s signature will be fierce, but a few teams stand out as clear frontrunners based on their current roster construction and cap health:

Kansas City Chiefs: With both Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt hitting free agency, the Chiefs have a glaring hole at RB. Placing Walker in an Andy Reid offense led by Patrick Mahomes would be a nightmare for defensive coordinators. While K.C. is tight on cap space, they could restructure veteran deals to make this work. If they miss out, look for them to use the No. 9 pick on a prospect like Jeremiyah Love.

Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings are expected to move on from Aaron Jones Sr., leaving Jordan Mason as the only reliable option. While Minnesota is currently struggling with a negative cap balance, the prospect of pairing Walker with their existing weapons might force them to make some aggressive roster cuts to find the money.

Washington Commanders: This is arguably the most logical fit. Washington is essentially clearing house, with Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols both testing the market. The Commanders have a mountain of cap space and a need for a veteran who can lead a young offense. Landing Walker would allow them to use their No. 7 pick on other pressing needs.

Tennessee Titans: This is the “sleeper” pick that makes too much sense. Robert Saleh, who knows Walker’s game intimately from his time in the NFC West, is now the head coach in Tennessee. With Tony Pollard entering his final year and Cam Ward needing a strong run game to lean on, Walker is the perfect fit. The Titans currently hold the most cap space in the NFL, meaning they can easily outbid anyone while still using their fourth overall pick to bolster the offensive line.

Kenneth Walker III Hits the Open Market: A Playoff Run for the Ages

Walker wasn’t just a piece of the Seahawks‘ championship puzzle; he was the entire picture. Alongside a dominant defense, Walker was the engine that powered Seattle to its second Super Bowl title.

His postseason statistics were nothing short of legendary, racking up 417 total yards and four touchdowns over the playoff stretch. This included a bruising 135-yard performance on the ground in the Super Bowl that essentially forced the voters’ hands for the MVP trophy.

Now, at just 25 years old, Walker enters unrestricted free agency as the premier prize of the 2026 class. Because the Seahawks opted against the $14.2 million franchise tag, he is free to negotiate a long-term deal that reflects his status as a bell-cow back.

Teams like the Chiefs, Vikings, Titans, and Commanders are already being linked to the star, as each possesses the unique combination of a massive void in the backfield and the financial flexibility to land a player of his caliber.
