Shohei Ohtani vs. Aaron Judge: MLB’s top 100 list reignites debate among fans

The debate over who is the best player in Major League Baseball between Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge is far from over. The most recent publication of the list of the top 100 MLB players reignited the discussion among fans, after the Japanese was placed in first place, ahead of the New York Yankees captain, who was second.

Ohtani and Judge have faced each other on multiple occasions throughout their careers, including once in a World Series, and since then the comparison between the two has become a constant in baseball. While one stands out for his unique versatility as a hitter and pitcher, the other does so for his offensive power, leadership and consistent production.

Ohtani’s No. 1 choice divides opinion

For a significant portion of the fans, the decision to place Shohei Ohtani at the top of the rankings is logical. His ability to perform at the highest level on both sides of the game makes him a historical rarity within MLB. His impact as a two-way player remains a differentiating factor against any other star in the league.

However, the announcement was not unanimously received. Many Yankees fans and independent analysts questioned why Aaron Judge did not top the list, pointing out that the outfielder surpassed Ohtani in several key offensive statistics last season and was one of the league leaders in advanced metrics such as WAR.

Mixed reactions on social media

Social media, especially X, was filled with mixed opinions following the publication of the ranking. Some fans defended the choice of Ohtani as the best player of the moment, highlighting his historical character and global impact on the sport.

Others, however, argued that Judge is the most dominant player in MLB today, highlighting his offensive production, consistency and role as a leader of the Yankees. There was also cross-criticism of both Judge’s defense and the media favoritism that some say surrounds Ohtani.

A debate that has no end in sight between Ohtani and Judge

The truth is that comparing Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge involves evaluating completely different profiles. Ohtani represents a figure without precedent in the modern era of baseball, while Judge embodies the prototype of the dominant power hitter and a reference for one of the most important franchises in the sport. Both have won MVP awards, have marked recent eras in MLB and continue to raise the competitive level of the league. Therefore, beyond rankings and statistics, the debate between Ohtani and Judge seems destined to remain alive for many years to come, fueled by performances that continue to make history in Major League Baseball.
