In recent days, social media has been the scene of a verbal war between two boxing greats: Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez.

The spark was ignited when Lopez, the WBO super lightweight champion, posted a grainy clip of an old sparring session in which he appears to dominate the WBC lightweight champion

What did I miss, @ShakurStevenson @Turki_alalshikh?

Teófino López

Lopez wrote on X (formerly Twitter), along with the video that quickly went viral. But far from keeping quiet, Shakur responded instantly, denying the content and calling it manipulated.

Shakur’s version: “That was his best moment”

  • In his response, Shakur did not hold back: “This is your best moment,” he wrote, claiming that Teofimo selected the most favorable clips for him. “Upload the full video,”Stevenson challenged, hinting that the full footage tells a very different story.
  • This type of confrontation is not new for Teofimo Lopez, who is known for using psychological tactics on social media to destabilize his rivals. However, Shakur Stevenson stood his ground, demonstrating his maturity and control.
  • Currently in one of the best stages of his career, Shakur does not seem to need to enter into digital wars to position himself at the top of his division.

Shakur Stevenson on a fight with Teofimo Lopez?

Despite the provocation, it seems that Teofimo is not a priority for the Newark champion. In a recent appearance on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Stevenson revealed his list of desired opponents, and Lopez was not among them.

Gervonta, Lamont Roach and… Andy Cruz?

Stevenson surprised by naming Gervonta Davis, Lamont Roach and Andy Cruz as the three boxers he wants to step into the ring with. The inclusion of Cruz, a young talent with only six professional fights, was particularly noteworthy.

“I like Andy Cruz. I think he’s the only one with a boxing IQ close to mine,” said Stevenson. This reinforces his intention to seek challenging and technical fights, beyond the media spectacle.

Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez: Inevitable clash or just provocation?

In a sport where egos and social media are almost as important as fists, this confrontation could go from virtual to real at any moment. Although Shakur Stevenson has made it clear that he is not interested in “theatrical fights”, the growing public interest could change the landscape.
