The Kansas City Chiefs turned heads with an unexpected move during the NFL Draft, trading up from the No. 9 spot to secure the No. 6 overall pick-a decision that did not go unnoticed by fans.

As many users pointed out on social media, the Chiefs stuck to their strategy of selecting defensive backs in the draft, choosing LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane.
“Trading up for a defensive back after making it clear you will never pay a defensive back a second contract,” one user wrote on X, referencing the recent trade that sent former first-round pick Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams.
“I really thought the Chiefs were content to keep moneyballing at cornerback… can’t say I like the move,” another comment read.
In free agency, Jaylen Watson (a seventh-round pick in 2022) also joined McDuffie in Los Angeles. Additionally, Joshua Williams (a 2022 fourth-rounder) left Kansas City after signing with the Tennessee Titans.
Delane is a proven cornerback and an All-American at LSU, the first for the program since Joe Burrow. The Chiefs are hoping he can carry over his strong college form from 2025, a season in which he did not allow a single touchdown in coverage.
