The renowned Colombian baseball player Giovanny Urshela, a current Major League Baseball (MLB) star, joined the growing list of victims of insecurity in Barranquilla this weekend.

The Colombian baseball player reported a million-dollar robbery at his home while he and his family were away.Gio Urshela suffers million-dollar robbery at his home in Barranquilla.

In the midst of the end-of-year celebrations, Colombian sports was shaken by the complaint of Giovanny Urshela. The baseball player, who resides in Barranquilla, used his social networks to announce that his home was broken into by criminals, who took advantage of his absence to steal valuables.

The “Modus Operandi”: They took advantage of the solitude of the house

According to reports from the authorities and the player’s own testimony on his Instagram account, the assailants entered the property at a time when there were no occupants. It seems that the criminals had studied the athlete’s movements to act with precision.

Once inside, the thieves searched various areas of the house, including bedrooms and safes. According to police sources, the loot consisted mainly of high-end jewellery, luxury watches and other personal items that the sportsman has accumulated during his successful career in the United States.

A message with a warning: “The closest one may be hurting you”

What was most striking about Urshela’s complaint was not only the material value of what was lost – estimated in millions – but the reflection he shared with his followers. In his Instagram “stories”, the baseball player wrote:

“It was my turn today in the city of Barranquilla, where crime knocked on my door… Material things can be recovered and I take this opportunity to tell you to always be aware of everything and everyone around you, that the closest person is the one who can be hurting you.”

This message has generated speculation about whether the robbery may have been facilitated by insider information from people in the area or workers in the area, a hypothesis that is already being analyzed by the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla.

The response of the authorities

After learning of the incident, Sijin units and police intelligence personnel arrived at the scene to take fingerprints and review security cameras in the area and in the house itself.

Although the exact amount stolen has not yet been revealed, it is said to be a considerable financial loss, given that Urshela is known for his taste in fine jewelry and collectible accessories. Police have said they are already working on identifying the suspects and that there are important clues to find the whereabouts of the stolen items.

Insecurity in Barranquilla under the spotlight

This incident with an internationally renowned figure such as Gio Urshela once again brings to the table the debate about security in Colombia’s Golden Gate. During the month of December, the city has recorded several high-impact criminal acts, which has led citizens to demand greater control and surveillance measures.

For now, the baseball player has thanked the messages of support from his fans and colleagues, reiterating that, fortunately, his family is safe and that the incident was nothing more than a scare with serious material consequences.
