Cuban player Andy Ibanez has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers to become a player for the current Major League Baseball champions for the 2026 season.

Ibanez arrives after a great stint with the Detroit Tigers, a team that decided not to give him a new contract for the upcoming season. The Cuban hit .239 with an OPS of .653 in 91 games with the Tigers last season.

Dodgers continue to strengthen: Andy Ibanez joins championship project

The Brooklyn Superbas continue to build their team in search of a third consecutive title in the 2026 season. The Cuban is 32 years old and arrives with the mission of contributing his experience and versatility to the best team of the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Andy Ibanez will strengthen the lower ranks of the Dodgers, who will have to make a move on their MLB 40-man roster to make the deal official. The news of this signing has caused a stir in the baseball world, as the Cuban utility player is known for his ability to play multiple infield positions and the champions are a team looking to strengthen their ranks in every sense.

The Los Angeles team’s move is not only a gamble on the present but also an investment in the future. Ibanez, in 420 MLB games, has proven to be a consistent player with a .254 batting average. The Cuban’s impact will depend on how quickly he adapts to his new environment and the opportunities he gets to show what he’s made of.

The Dodgers are looking for Tarik Skubal after signing Andy Ibanez

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal is strongly rumored to join his former teammate Andy Ibanez with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The reigning Major League Baseball champions’ proposal to Detroit would consist of a trade involving catcher Dalton Rushing, who is considered one of the best offensive prospects in the MLB. Along with him, right-handers Gavin Stone and River Ryan and infielder Joendry Vargas would be in the trade package.

After finishing the 2025 season with an 87-75 record and reaching the postseason for the second consecutive year, the Tigers aim to go further in the 2026 campaign. Although that achievement is largely due to Skubal, a trade for the names reportedly put on the table by the Dodgers could tempt the Detroit front office.
