Former New York Yankees player Josh Donaldson showed his stance on the case of Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, who has yet to reach a salary agreement with his team and will have to negotiate it in the well-known MLBsalary arbitration.

Skubal, winner of the American League Cy Young Award, filed a $32 million arbitration request this week and Detroit offered $19 million, a record difference, the largest in the history of Major League Baseball salary arbitration

Ex-Yankee fires without filter: Josh Donaldson criticizes Tigers for Skubal

The New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson has severely criticized the Detroit Tigers for their arbitration negotiations with 29-year-old left-handed ace Tarik Skubal, after the parties failed to reach a contractual agreement for 2026

“A little late, but I just saw the news about the arbitration over Skubal. I mean, the Detroit Tigers are making a big mistake. Skubal wants 32 million, Detroit offers 19 million. A trash organization.”

Skubal has won two consecutive American League Cy Young Awards and over the last two seasons has gone 31-10 with a 2.30 ERA and 469 strikeouts in 387 1/3 innings in 62 outings. The pitcher will look to break the record for the highest salary for an arbitration-eligible pitcher, a record set by David Price‘s $19.75 million in 2015.

The Dodgers are looking at Tarik Skubal amid the Detroit Tigers’ problems

Skubal, with the current situation in Detroit, has caused great interest in the current MLB camps, Los Angeles Dodgers, this after the signing of his former teammate Andy Ibanez

The reigning Major League Baseball champions’ proposal to Detroit would reportedly consist of a trade involving catcher Dalton Rushing, who is considered one of the best offensive prospects in MLB. Along with him, right-handers Gavin Stone and River Ryan and infielder Joendry Vargas would be in the trade package.

After finishing the 2025 season with an 87-75 record and reaching the postseason for the second consecutive year, the Tigers‘ goal is to go further in the 2026 campaign. Although that achievement is largely due to Skubal, a trade for the names reportedly put forward by the Dodgers could tempt the Detroit front office.
