The year 2026 will bring in March the World Baseball Classic where 16 teams will participate in various venues around the world. With regard to the Mexican national team, the arrival of Cuban-Mexican Randy Arozarena to cover the right field of the team led by manager Benjamin Gil has been confirmed. With this announcement, the national team reinforces its project towards a new edition of the international tournament, in which it will seek to repeat, and surpass, the historic performance achieved in 2023.

Arozarena became one of the great references of the Mexican national team during the last edition of the World Baseball Classic thanks to his dedication on and off the diamond, as well as his immediate connection with the fans, which quickly transformed him into a key player for Benjamin Gil’s squad. On the sporting side, his performance was outstanding: he led the national team in batting, runs batted in and on-base percentage (OBP), being a key player in Mexico’s progress to the final stages of the tournament.

What other players have confirmed to represent Mexico in the World Baseball Classic?

The confirmation of the outfielder adds to the previous announcements of Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox left fielder, and Alejandro Kirk, catcher for the National League champion Toronto Blue Jays, who were also confirmed in recent days as members of the tricolor roster. With these additions, the Mexican national team is beginning to build a solid base of players with Major League experience, capable of competing at the highest level against the powerhouses of world baseball.

As mentioned, the Mexican team will once again be commanded by Benjamin Gil, who has been fundamental in the consolidation of a competitive group with identity. Under his leadership, the national team has shown that it can play on equal terms with any opponent, backed by talent, discipline and a strong connection with the fans. With Randy Arozarena back, Mexico not only adds quality and offensive power, but also leadership and charisma, elements that excite fans ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

When will the World Baseball Classic take place?

The tournament will be held from March 5 to 17. Mexico will play the first round of the World Baseball Classic at Daikin Park in Houston, where it will debut against Great Britain on March 6, continue against Brazil and the United States, and close the group stage against Italy, with an eye on advancing to the quarterfinals. The Mexican national team will confirm in the coming days the new inclusions made by the manager.

“The National Teams Committee informs that outfielder Randy Arozarena has confirmed his participation with the Mexican National Baseball Team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Randy has shone on the big stages of our sport: World Baseball Classic and World Series, among others,” announced the National Teams Committee.
