Premier League supremacy in the Champions League

The Premier League sends a message to all of Europe: It has become the most dominant league, and the position of its teams in the Champions League says it all. They have placed five teams in the Top 8 of the competition, and six in total remain alive.

Six English teams began this adventure in the season, and all six can still aspire to the title.

Arsenal proved to be a serious contender

The “Gunners” were the standout of the group, achieving a perfect league phase by winning all eight of their matches-becoming the first team to accomplish this feat in the new format of the competition.

On the other hand, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur finished third and fourth, respectively, despite not being at their best in the Premier League right now.

Chelsea and Manchester City also delivered strong performances, ending sixth and eighth after beating Napoli and Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Newcastle closed in 12th place after rescuing a highly competitive 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain.

The English dominance is not limited to the Champions League. In the Europa League and Conference League, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace are still in contention, further solidifying the strong impact of English football on the continental stage.

This collective performance has been decisive for the Premier League’s UEFA coefficient-the system used by the European governing body to measure the strength of each league and allocate spots in international competitions.

After the completion of the league phase, England leads the ranking with 20.069 points, holding a considerable advantage over its main competitors. Italy sits behind, while LaLiga and the Bundesliga remain in the fight for the top spots.

It’s worth remembering that the two highest-ranked associations in the UEFA coefficient receive an additional spot in the Champions League, meaning the Premier League is very well positioned to secure five slots in the next edition of the tournament.

In addition, this scenario will expand access opportunities to the Europa League and Conference League, benefiting clubs like Fulham, Brentford, and other lower-budget institutions.

UEFA Coefficient Ranking 2025/26

  1. England – 9/9 clubs – 20.069 points
  2. Germany – 6/7 clubs – 15.285
  3. Spain – 6/8 clubs – 14.375
  4. Portugal – 4/5 clubs – 14.700
  5. Italy – 6/7 clubs – 14.250

France – 6/7 clubs – 12.714
