“I was a competitive gymnast for most of my life. And then I fractured my kneecap twice. The same one, to be exact. I was told I was so young that my muscles were stronger than my bones. So while I was doing a jump, the muscle literally ripped a piece of bone off my kneecap. I was trying to go to the Olympics, but when I was 10 or 11 years old, my parents said to me, ‘This is too much. You’re in the gym nine hours a day, almost every day,” Paige Spiranac told Aaron Chewning on the ‘St. Andre Golf’ podcast.

Her serious injuries were a turning point in Paige Spirinac’s career, who comes from a family with a long sporting tradition (her mother was a professional ballet dancer, her father was an NCAA football champion, her sister was a heptathlete at Stanford and her aunt was a professional tennis player).

“My dad said to me, ‘Let’s try golf’. I didn’t come from a family of golfers… but after hitting my first ball, I loved it. Obsessed, really,” said the 32-year-old influencer and model, who was a standout junior golfer, competed in the NCAA with Arizona and even played in a professional tournament (the Dubai Desert Classic).
After failing to secure a permanent LPGA card, she went into crisis: “I felt like a loser and a quitter at that time”.
