No farewell tour? Jeanie Buss hints that LeBron James might opt for a low-key retirement

Retirement talk around LeBron James has been swirling again, but according to Jeanie Buss, the ending may not play out like the farewell tours fans have become used to.

With the future of the Lakers star once again becoming a major talking point, Buss admitted that the decision rests entirely with James.

While she made clear that she would love to see him finish his career in Los Angeles, she also acknowledged that the next move belongs to him alone.

That is what made one part of her comments stand out.

“But he’s going to be a free agent. It’s really his decision to make. He is a valuable player in this league, even in his 23rd season. It’s incredible what he’s done. But, you know, the decision’s going to be his, he’s a free agent, and I’m sure he’s going to look at all his opportunities. Or not. Maybe he just wants to go out quietly.”

Why Jeanie Buss believes LeBron will choose his own ending

Buss‘ remarks reflected both admiration and realism.

She praised James for still being such an important player deep into his career, but also made clear that the franchise understands how much control he has earned.

Rather than pushing any grand retirement plan, her tone suggested the Lakers are prepared for whichever route he wants to take.

That includes the possibility of no grand send off at all.

Buss compared the situation to Kobe Bryant‘s final season, when the former Lakers star made his intentions known early and allowed the league to celebrate him in every arena.

But she also pointed out that not every player wants that kind of spotlight.

A quiet exit could still fit LeBron’s personality

The idea of LeBron stepping away without a farewell tour may surprise fans, but it does not seem impossible.

Even with retirement rumours growing louder, there has been no confirmation that he is ready to walk away now. Reports have also suggested the idea of a farewell tour has been overstated, with people close to the situation indicating that it is not something James has wanted.

For now, the uncertainty remains.

What Buss made clear, though, is that if LeBron James decides to retire, he will likely do it on his own terms.

Whether that means one final season in purple and gold or a quiet exit without months of celebration, the choice appears to be his and his alone.
