Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts continue to disagree after the Eagles collapse against the Cowboys

Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni have a long history of not getting along well. That’s not great news for the Philadelphia Eagles, as your QB and HC are two of the most crucial pieces on a football team.

In 2023, multiple sources reported that Sirianni and Hurts’ relationship was “fractured” and “unhealthy.” Since then, things have been a rollercoaster ride with ups and downs.

Months later, ESPN’s Tim McManus reported that Hurts “was hoping the direction of the offense would change,” which sparked even more buzz around Sirianni and Hurts’ relationship.

“He believed they were overly reliant on vertical routes and not utilizing short-to-intermediate throws, particularly over the middle of the field, where [A.J.] Brown has thrived in his career. In short, the belief was there was too much flash over substance – a sentiment others on the offensive side of the ball shared,” McManus wrote.

Before the start of the 2024 season, McManus also reported that the “Eagles [were] looking to bridge Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts’ divide.” A new season had arrived, but the problems hadn’t ended.

That didn’t seem to stop the Eagles from winning Super Bowl LIX. After beating the Chiefs on the grandest stage of them all, Sirianni said any criticism of Hurts’ performance in last year’s playoffs was “bullsh*t.”

Hurts and Sirianni can tolerate each other, but won’t agree on many things

When your team is winning, it’s easy to say good things about your players and teammates. But when you lose, your true character comes out, and that was evident after the Eagles’ tough 24-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

After the game, Sirianni and Hurts spoke to the press, showing that their opinions were not on the same page. When questioned about the outcome, Philadelphia’s HC said:

“I think some of the things that we did today, we’re trying to throw them out of it because when you have five men … then they’re gonna have one less guy there into the coverage. So we did some of those things, obviously, not well enough. Again, it comes back to how we scheme it against the different personnel groups and how we execute it.”

Later, Hurts was asked the same question, and his answer was completely different:

“I think that’s just how they’re built now, given the three interior defenders they have. They want to keep their best guys on the field, and it’s very effective, and it was something that we didn’t handle as well as we like to. So good opportunity to build if that’s something that teams show us.”

This defeat against the Cowboys is particularly painful after leading the game 21-0 at AT&T Stadium.
