The Emirates NBA Cup 2025 is back, and all 30 NBA teams are ready to chase glory. The Milwaukee Bucks, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, were flawless in last year’s edition, lifting the trophy after a dominant run. This time, every contender is hoping to knock them off the throne and cash in big.

The tournament returned with six new groups that mix up the traditional divisions. Each conference still has three groups, but this season’s structure gives fans fresh matchups they rarely see before spring. Imagine Celtics vs. Mavericks or Warriors vs. Knicks in November, with real stakes behind every possession.

Milwaukee’s 2024 run set the tone. They swept East Group B with a 4-0 record, then defeated Orlando, Atlanta, and Oklahoma City to claim the Cup. The Thunder later rode that experience all the way to the NBA Finals, proving the mid-season competition can fuel postseason success.

NBA Cup 2025: Big Money, Real Motivation

The NBA Cup is about more than bragging rights. This year’s prize pool is designed to keep players locked in from the opening tip to the Las Vegas finale.

Here is the breakdown of what is at stake for 2025:

  • Quarterfinalists: $51,497 per player
  • Semifinalists: $102,994 per player
  • Runners-up: $205,988 per player
  • Champions: $514,971 per player

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver explained to NBA.com that the Cup aims to “bring playoff intensity into the regular season.” The extra cash seems to be doing exactly that. According to Sports Business Journal, last year’s Cup Final drew more than 6 million viewers across ESPN and Amazon Prime Video, a clear sign of growing interest in the in-season tournament.

It’s not just a tournament. It’s part of the season’s heartbeat

From Halloween to Vegas: The Road to the Cup

The group stage began on Halloween night, October 31, and continued every Friday through November 28. The quarterfinals took place on December 9 and 10, followed by the semifinals and final in Las Vegas on December 13 and 16.

Every Cup game counts toward the regular season standings, adding extra weight to every win. Fans can catch the action on Amazon Prime Video, ESPN, NBC, and Peacock, with the knockout rounds streaming exclusively on Amazon.

As Silver told USA Today Sports, “It’s not just a tournament. It’s part of the season’s heartbeat.”

The Emirates NBA Cup 2025 might only be in its third year, but it already feels like a mainstay on the basketball calendar. The stakes are high, the money is massive, and the energy is unmistakable.
