However, the latest rumors put Milwaukee star pitcher Freddy Peralta as a priority over Bellinger.

If the team wants to win a World Series, it cannot afford to start the season without a star starter and that is why in the latest rumors it has been mentioned that the Mets need a reinforcement in their starting pitching, where the Milwaukee superstar Freddy Peralta would be the most suitable player to join the New York Mets.
According to a report by MLB expert Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the New York team is heavily involved in talks with Peralta. With the good 2025 season he had with the Milwaukee Brewers, his name in this market has stood out quite a bit.
During the 2025 season, Peralta made 33 starts. He compiled a 17-6 record, as well as a 2.70 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, a 3.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 176.2 innings pitched, thus proving his worth as a top-flight pitcher.
Cody Bellinger another priority for the New York Mets
Although Dominican Freddy Peralta is the reinforcement that the Mets need to cover a need in the team, the addition of Cody Bellinger is also a priority.
Bellinger is coming off a 2025 season with the Yankees in which he hit 29 home runs, drove in 98 runs and had a .272/.334/.480 batting average in 152 games, MLB star numbers.
Given what happened with superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker, who ended up signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a move toward Bellinger makes sense for the Mets, as he is the second option, but would ultimately be a player who would bring a great level to the squad.
Closing out the offseason with the addition of Bichette, Bellinger and Peralta would be a big win for the Mets, which many fans find difficult to make a reality, but it is certainly a possibility right now.
