The baseball community is on edge after news broke of the serious car accident involving Frank Cairone, one of the Milwaukee Brewers’ brightest prospects. The young left-handed pitcher was rushed to hospital following the incident last Friday in Franklinville, New Jersey.

Frank Cairone’s current health status

The Milwaukee team confirmed the news on Saturday in an official statement released via MLB.com:

“Frank is currently being treated at a New Jersey hospital with the support of his family. The Brewers’ thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family during this difficult time,” the statement explained.

In the face of uncertainty, the Brewers’ management has sought to close ranks around the player, emphasizing that the priority at this time is not sporting, but human. In the official statement, the franchise was clear in establishing its commitment to support:

“The team said: “”We will provide updates on Frank’s status as they become available.”

An accident that interrupts Frank Cairone’s sleep

Cairone, just 18 years old, is considered the 26th best prospect in the organization according to MiLB.com. He made his professional debut last July when the Brewers selected him in the second round of the Draft (68th overall) out of Delsea Regional High School.

Standing at an imposing 1.90 meters and with a fastball that already reaches 95 miles per hour, the left-hander caught the attention of scouts after a dominant final high school season in which he struck out 94 batters in just 44 innings. His potential was so evident that he decided to forego his college commitment to Coastal Carolina to sign his first professional contract at the age of 17.

Today, the sporting world is putting aside statistics and speed radars to join in support of Cairone, whose overriding priority now is physical recovery from this blow outside the diamond.
