Alex Cohen’s decision comes after a difficult year for the Mets, who finished the season with a record of 83-79 and missed the playoffs after losing the final game to the Miami Marlins.
The disappointment was even greater considering that the organization had gone all-in by signing Juan Soto to a historic $765 million contract. This was compounded by the departure of key players such as Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil and Edwin Diaz, which increased discontent among fans.
