LeBron James was better than Kevin Durant in almost every category. He finished the night with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, just shy of a triple-double while controlling the pace of the game. Durant, on the other hand, had 23 points but didn’t have the same overall impact. The difference wasn’t just in the numbers it was about when those moments happened, and that’s where LeBron won this latest battle.
A short-handed Lakers team that stepped up
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets 101-94 while playing with a tighter rotation for most of the game. Unlike Houston, which used more players, Los Angeles relied on just nine, maintaining intensity without losing rhythm. Marcus Smart delivered a complete performance with 25 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals, while Luke Kennard added 23 points with strong efficiency.
Houston got solid production from Alperen Sengun (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Durant leading in scoring, but they never managed to take control of the game. Meanwhile, the Lakers were without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves two key pieces in their offensive structure.
During the first quarter, Doncic was presented with the trophies for the 2025-26 scoring title and Western Conference Player of the Month for March, a moment that highlighted his path toward MVP consideration. However, due to injury, he was unable to take the court. Even so, the Lakers are showing that, despite key absences, they have more answers than many expected.
With this result, the Lakers move ahead 2-0 in the series, taking a significant edge heading into the next game. Game 3 is set for Friday, April 24, with the series shifting to Houston. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET, and in the United States it will be available on Prime Video as part of the NBA’s current playoff broadcast distribution.
