Lamine Yamal’s father says his son hasn’t shown even 20% of his potential and ‘sets him apart’ from Leo Messi

Lamine Yamal has become a soccer star since his arrival at Barcelona thanks to his offensive talent, dribbling, speed, goals, and exceptional vision for a player so young. This has led to him being frequently compared to other players, such as Lionel Messi, the club’s icon.

However, the young forward’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, insists that his son’s full potential has yet to be realized and that he doesn’t need to be compared to anyone.

Lamine’s father shields his son from comparisons

Since making his debut at age 15 on April 29, 2023, in a 4-0 win against Betis, Yamal has been the talk of the town. Breaking records and receiving awards such as the Kopa Trophy for the world’s best U-23 player at the 2024 Ballon d’Or gala, as well as the Golden Boy and the Laureus Rising Star awards, he has continued to gain ground in soccer and more playing time at the club, establishing himself as a key and indispensable player for Barça.

Internationally, he has also stood out on the senior Spain National Team, where he has already made significant appearances and confirmed his status as one of the sport’s leading figures.

His ability to create opportunities in one-on-one situations, his vision, and his knack for generating chances-not to mention his goals-have led to comparisons with other soccer legends who have made history.

Despite this, in a recent Instagram Live, his father addressed two major aspects regarding his son and his potential. The first relates to the fact that, according to Nasraoui, the forward is still far from reaching his peak:

“Lamine hasn’t shown even 20% of his soccer skills. His father says so,” he revealed (@elchiringuitotv).

Then, Mounir took the opportunity to put an end to the debate about comparisons with other stars, making it clear that the focus is on his individual development and not on parallels:

“Another thing that’s a lie: I’ve never compared my son to anyone. Do you know who I compare him to? To himself,” he revealed, reinforcing his message: “Lamine doesn’t need to compare himself to anyone because no one has compared themselves to him,” said Nasraoui, assuring that he respected every player, regardless of their era or career path.

Meanwhile, Lamine has tallied 21 goals and 16 assists in 40 matches played this season, the result of the daily effort his father also highlighted. According to him, as soon as he wakes up in the morning, he does push-ups, and he explained that there are no excuses or days of demotivation, but rather an admirable consistency that has led him to success.

Now, Lamine and Barcelona are preparing to face Atlético Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium in LaLiga on April 4, ahead of the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on the 8th at the Spotify Camp Nou.
