Kylian Mbappé, one goal away from breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s historic record with Real Madrid

In his nine historic seasons at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo not only became one of the club’s greatest idols, but also set some impressive records along the way.

However, years later and with the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, one of them may change hands.

Mbappé wants to surpass CR7

The French striker was once again the talk of the town after his two goals in the Copa del Rey round of 32 against Talavera.

The match ended with a 3-2 victory for Real Madrid, with Kylian scoring a penalty in the 41st minute and another goal near the end of the match in the 88th minute. Manuel Farrando Stiepovich scored Real Madrid’s other goal. Nahuel Arroyo in the 80th minute and Gonzalo Di Renzo in the 90+1st minute scored for Talavera.

However, this win not only meant their second consecutive victory, but also left Mbappé just one goal away from a great and historic feat with the club.

The truth is that, before leaving Real Madrid in the 2017-2018 season, the current Portugal captain managed to score 59 goals in a single calendar year with the Merengue shirt in 2013. Now, with his recent brace, Kylian has already scored a total of 58 goals this year with the club. Thus, Mbappé needs only one more goal to equal his childhood idol or two or more goals to surpass him and go down in club history as the holder of this record.

However, time could be against him: there is only one game left on Real Madrid’s calendar to close out the year. Mbappé’s last chance will be against Sevilla during the La Liga match on the 18th.

This match will take place on Saturday, December 20, at home at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Will Kylian reach this milestone?
