Day after day of the winter market, Kyle Tucker is in the news because he fails to sign with any team. Being one of the most sought-after players of the season, his signing is far from several interested franchises because he is priced at $400 million as a free agent. Among the suitors who do not rule him out for that reason are the Dodgers.
Veteran analyst Rob Parker told MLB Network that the Los Angeles franchise would not have cost anything to go all out to sign Tucker if it had that capital, but as it does not have such a large checkbook for signings, much less to invest $400 million in a single player, it was better to give up their interest.
Here’s what surprises me. The Dodgers, generally, if they want someone, they just go and sign them. I don’t even know what the reason for the delay is. I don’t know why the Dodgers haven’t closed that deal. They put the money on the table and say, “We don’t care what people think about what we’re doing. We’re going to do what we want to do and get the players we want.” So I’m going to say he’s not going to the Dodgers
Parker is blunt in pointing out that the Dodgers’ door is closed for Tucker. With that possibility ruled out, the analyst is incredulous about the outfielder’s case and the uncertainty surrounding his future. When the offseason began, he was expected to quickly sign with one of the organizations that had the payroll to pay, but now he is one of the stars still without a team.
All year long we’ve been hearing about the $400 million and what he did with the Cubs. Then, of course, he had that bad streak and then he came back. So I’m really surprised that he hasn’t signed yet. He’s someone that people have gone crazy for. All the skills he’s been able to bring
The Los Angeles franchise invested more than $1.5 billion over the previous two seasons. By those standards, they preferred to tighten their belts in this free agency market. The three-year, $69 million contract for Edwin Diaz is so far the only major addition to their roster.
Others believe Kyle Tucker can sign with the Dodgers
J.P. Morosi of MLB Network, contrary to Parker’s view, believes that the Los Angeles franchise does have the financial power to sign any player this year. Among his arguments, he indicated that any free agent player is considering being with the Dodgers because it is a team that aspires and competes for the highest level.
