Keegan Bradley turns Ryder Cup into comedy show at Bethpage

The Ryder Cup hasn’t even started, but Keegan Bradley already delivered a viral moment. On Thursday, the U.S. captain grabbed an American flag and sprinted up the 18th hole at Bethpage Black, waving it wildly as fans cheered him on.

The crowd inside the giant grandstand erupted. Bradley pumped the flag like a pep-squad leader, urging fans to get louder as he reached the green. He then posed for photos with his dad, a young supporter, and a few of his players. It was part hype, part comedy – and exactly the kind of energy the U.S. team hopes to ride this weekend.

The stunt capped off the last practice day before the 45th Ryder Cup begins Friday morning. Players from both sides spent the afternoon fine-tuning their games, but Bradley stole the spotlight with his over-the-top flag dash.

Bradley embraces the show

Known for his fiery personality, Bradley leaned into the role of entertainer as much as captain. His run quickly made the rounds on social media, with fans calling it both hilarious and perfectly on brand for the New York venue.

“Vintage Keegan,” one U.S. caddie said with a grin. “He wants the crowd in it from the first tee. That’s who he is.”

The Americans are hoping that intensity gives them an edge. Collin Morikawa said earlier in the week that he wanted Bethpage to be “absolute chaos,” pointing out that home fans can rattle opponents. “We want it. We want to use that to our advantage,” Morikawa said.

A crowd built for noise

They may get their wish. Figures reported by Daily Mail Sport show that 96% of resale tickets were purchased by U.S. fans. With more than 50,000 people expected each day, Bethpage could feel more like a football stadium than a golf course.

European captain Luke Donald has tried to downplay the effect. “We’ve played in tough places before. My guys are ready for the noise,” he told reporters. Still, even he knows that a Ryder Cup in New York is unlike anything else in golf.

Bradley’s flag-waving sprint wasn’t just for laughs. It was a message: this is America’s home game, and the crowd is part of the team. If Thursday’s preview is any sign, Bethpage Black will be loud, unapologetic, and maybe even a little wild – just the way the U.S. captain wants it.
