Maxx Crosby became the object of desire for the Dallas Cowboys. During the 2025 season, they pushed strongly to bring him to The Star, however it did not happen and they were left with unfinished business.
Heading into the 2026 free agency period, they once again pursued his services, but the Baltimore Ravens offered more to Las Vegas and ultimately convinced the Raiders to allow their defensive star to leave. Raiders 2, Dallas 0.
Then came the unexpected twist that no one anticipated. The Ravens canceled the deal and sent the defensive end back after he failed the required medical examinations. At that moment, many believed that Jerry Jones might finally have a new opportunity to land Crosby.
But once again, that complicated word-uncertainty-changed everything. Maxx took to social media to declare that he was returning to the team he loves, the one where he feels happy and where he hopes to continue making history. Raiders 3-0 Dallas.

With Crosby apparently out of the picture, the Cowboys target another player
Everything now suggests that the Cowboys’ chances of bringing Maxx Crosby to Dallas have been buried. Because of that reality, the team’s owner and general manager has shifted his focus toward another defensive player.
Jerry’s attention is now directed toward Minnesota. The Cowboys are interested in Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. However, they will not be the only team pursuing him. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Philadelphia Eagles are also interested in acquiring him.
According to Jason Kandel, Greenard may not be the best option for Dallas, but he does present one important advantage: he is healthy, unlike Crosby.
Ever since the Micah Parsons trade, Jerry Jones has been searching for a cheaper edge rusher to replace him with, and now his wish has been granted.”… “For teams like Dallas who are rightfully spooked by Crosby’s medicals, the 2020 third-round pick is a cheaper alternative who is frankly underrated.
While Crosby is dealing with some brutal knee issues, the Florida product underwent shoulder surgery that ended his season early, but even that’s a lot less risky since he doesn’t require one first-round pick to acquire, let alone multiple. And Jerry, all the risk-taker, would be smart to play it safe.
The Vikings reportedly want a second-round selection in return for letting their player go, and the Cowboys do not currently possess one. However, another team interested in Greenard could potentially provide that asset.
If Jerry Jones really wants to improve this DL and bring in Greenard, he will have to get creative to do so, even though he’s far cheaper than Crosby.

Jones is desperate to rebuild his defense and make it competitive again, especially after the 2025 season ended with Dallas ranking as the worst defensive unit in the entire NFL.
