As Centre Court prepared for its most prestigious match of the year between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the men’s singles finals at Wimbledon, it was Kate Middelton who stole the show by making an appearance on Sunday, July 13.

The appearance of the Princess of Wales drew nearly as much attention as the championship match itself, highlighting her unique importance in the role of British society and public events.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official news page confirmed their attendance at the men’s singles final via X.com, formerly Twitter, as they watch Spain take on Italy in London.

It continues a yearly custom closely aligned with the Royal Family’s enduring association as since 2016, Middleton has served as Royal Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a position formerly occupied by Queen Elizabeth II.

This role has placed the 43-year-old at the center of the tournament’s formal proceedings, including the ceremonial duty of presenting the championship trophies to the eventual winners, such as Iga Swiatek on Saturday.

The match itself holds historical implications. Alcaraz is aiming for a rare consecutive French Open and Wimbledon title double. While Sinner returns to Centre Court still carrying the weight of past defeats, including a bitter loss at Roland-Garros.

The pair are regarded as the best two players in tennis at the moment and are in the early stages of forging a rivalry that could go on to be as revered and respected as Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal’s.

Who is in the Royal Box at Wimbledon?

The Royal Box, a long-standing Wimbledon institution dating back to 1922, continued its legacy of showcasing prominent figures in both British society and global culture as one of the most prestigious seats on the ATP Tour.

In addition to Prince William and Princess Kate, other senior royals who were present during the semi-finals and are expected to return for the final include Princess Michael of Kent, the Duchess of Gloucester, and the Earl of Snowdon.

The star power extended well beyond royalty as celebrities such as Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rami Malek, and Leonardo DiCaprio were among the guests spotted during the semifinals and likely to return for the final.

Whilst earlier rounds featured appearances from Hugh Grant, Emma Bunton, Jodie Foster, Cara Delevingne, Hayley Atwell, Luke Evans, Eddie Redmayne, Jason Isaacs, Greta Gerwig, and Noah Baumbach, highlighting Wimbledon’s ongoing status as a global cultural event.

Today, as the men’s final concludes the 2025 Wimbledon tournament, all eyes again return to the Royal Box as the Princess is expected to present the trophy, continuing a tradition of royal involvement that stretches back generations.
