John Schneider breaks silence on Jose Berrios and clarifies Blue Jays controversy

The 2025 season, although brilliant, did not end in the best way for the Blue Jays. Jose Berrios, one of the most important arms in the rotation, was not present with the team during the World Series due to inflammation in his right elbow and biceps. His absence generated immediate speculation among MLB fans and analysts.

John Schneider clarifies what happened with Jose Berrios in the 2025 World Series

John Schneider, the club’s manager, finally decided to address the issue clearly. On what happened, he explained:

I think it was probably the heat of the moment. Obviously he wasn’t pitching for us. He was on the injured list. So, we didn’t deal with it at the time because we were trying to win the World Series

The statement suggests that the friction with the Puerto Rican pitcher is due to the high competitive pressure rather than a structural fracture within the clubhouse.

The emotional background of the 2025 World Series for the Blue Jays

For any star pitcher, missing out on baseball’s biggest stage is a tough blow. Berrios had been a key player during the regular season, but the injury sidelined him at the decisive moment.

General manager Ross Atkins acknowledged that the Puerto Rican pitcher was “not happy and disappointed“. That reaction, far from being rebellious, seems to respond to the natural frustration of a competitor who wants to contribute at the biggest moment of the year.

In the midst of the championship battle, the coaching staff prioritized total concentration on the field. Internal discussions were put on hold until the intensity of the tournament subsided.

Is the Blue Jays conflict resolved heading into MLB 2026?

With the start of Spring Training 2026, the outlook looks different. Schneider said the issue was addressed before the preseason began and that both Berrios and the rest of the team are aligned on the same goal.

The priority now is sporting. Toronto has a deep and talented rotation, which means Berrios will have to compete to reaffirm his place. However, there is no doubt that he remains a valuable asset to the Canadian club.

Today, the message from the dugout is clear: leave the past behind and focus on the new season. 2026 will be a year where Berrios will have to prove that he can recover his best form to reaffirm his role in the team.
