Kris Boyd, cornerback for the New York Jets, has issued a grim and emotional update after being readmitted to hospital – weeks after a shooting in Midtown Manhattan left him fighting for his life. The 29-year-old was initially discharged following emergency treatment, but now must confront a new health setback.
Boyd was shot in the early hours of November 16, outside a restaurant in Manhattan’s West 38th Street area. The bullet reportedly entered his abdomen and migrated into his lung, lodging perilously close to his pulmonary artery.
He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he underwent multiple medical procedures. At first, the news seemed cautiously optimistic: Boyd shared on social media that he was breathing on his own and feeling grateful for the support he’d received.
However, late Wednesday his Instagram Story revealed a heart-wrenching reversal. “I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues,” Boyd wrote. He thanked everyone who had offered prayers and support – even though he couldn’t respond to every message personally.
Faith and uncertainty as recovery stalls
That same night, Boyd posted another message – short, raw, and filled with emotion: “I need you Father God. This one bout to be Legendary.” The tone of the message hinted at his fear, pain and reliance on faith to pull through.
The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. on November 16, when Boyd and teammates exited a Manhattan eatery. The NYPD says the suspect fled on foot before entering a white BMW – no one has been arrested yet.
Boyd had not played this season, having spent training camp on injured reserve with a shoulder injury – a bittersweet context to the tragedy.
The sudden readmission and Boyd‘s own anguished posts have amplified concern throughout the New York Jets community and beyond. The team’s coaching staff, including Aaron Glenn, have acknowledged the setback and said they’re awaiting updates.
For now, fans, teammates and well-wishers alike are left gripping hope – hoping that Boyd’s strength and faith carry him through this second fight for survival.
