Change everything so that everything remains the same, this is how Jerry Jones’ unwillingness to explore riskier paths in the search for a new head coach for the Dallas Cowboys can be summarised, as they saw Mike McCarthy leave after a season to forget.
With the appointment of Brian Schottenheimer, the names of Pete Carroll, Deion Sanders and Kellen Moore are left behind, some of them figures with specific weight, not to mention what they know how to do well, but in the field of prominence, that which Jones likes to monopolize, and which is well known in the environment of the NFL.
Protecting Prescott with an empathetic head coach
One person who knows this reality well is expert analyst Tom Pelisero, who said on a recent episode of the Rich Eisen Show: “People on the outside might be surprised, but inside it’s not because Jerry Jones actually never wanted to change anything. He wanted to keep the same offense. He wanted to continue with the same culture that he liked“.
The advantage of naming the former offensive coordinator as head coach is that his good relationship with QB Dak Prescott bodes well for his long-term vision with the player who is signed for the next three years at least on a $240 million contract. Jones is playing it safe and choosing to take care of the goose that lays the golden eggs, although lately he is not exactly known for that.
New coordinators for Schottenheimer
As expected in this new era, Schottenheimer unleashed certain changes that were necessary, such as the hiring of a new offensive coordinator who has the task of raising the average number of points per game
According to analyst Adam Schefter, the Cowboys already have their eye on Cardinals CO Klayton Adams as their offensive coordinator, who along with Matt Eberflus on the defensive line, will be the new coach’s ‘squires’ in the difficult task of seeking a new Super Bowl title, something Dallas has not achieved since 1995.
