After nearly ten months of a tough rehabilitation process and the weight of a team’s hopes over his shoulders, Jayson Tatum is once again expected to make his return to the TD Garden court.
It was Shams Charania, from ESPN, who advanced that the six-time All-Star is expected to make his highly anticipated 2025-26 season debut as soon as this Friday, March 6, against the Dallas Mavericks. For the Boston Celtics’ fanbase, this is the moment they have been waiting for since that devastating night that put him away in May 2025.
In the “questionable” list
While his debut this Friday should not be taken for granted, it is true that his journey until now has been anything but easy. On that night of May 2025, Tatum suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon, an injury that often sidelines athletes for a full calendar year. However, after months of mystery and reports suggesting that he would miss the entire season, the 28-year-old forward has reportedly sped up his recovery with a relentless “six-days-a-week” schedule.
Now, his team has placed and upgraded him to questionable on the injury report for the very first time since the injury. While speaking to his physician during a checkup chronicled in his recent documentary, Tatum said:
“I didn’t come back to be no role player, Doc
He has come back to give his all for the team.
What to expect on Friday night
While it is true that Tatum has been described as ready to go, the Celtics are expected to be cautious. He will likely be eased back into the rotation and be given short minutes game by game in order to find his rhythm again alongside a team that has learned to win without him.
The matchup against the Mavericks, where we could also see the return of Cooper Flagg, is more than just a game. The Boston Celtics have a lot on the line and the TD Garden will not roar just for a star player, but for a whole franchise in need of success.
