Jayson Tatum looks absolutely devastated amid injury recovery and eventual comeback with the Celtics

Jayson Tatum‘s ongoing Achilles recovery has been brutal, as we can see in a video posted by the NBA in social media.

Tatum has partnered with NBC on a five-episode series titled “The Quiet Work,” which documents his rehabilitation process and the day-to-day effort behind returning from a significant injury.

Tatum has previously stated that he envisioned his first game back taking place at TD Garden in front of Celtics fans. Boston‘s upcoming home schedule includes a March 4 game against the Charlotte Hornets and a March 6 matchup with the Dallas Mavericks, both of which now appear more plausible targets for his return.

The Celtics take a cautious approach

Despite positive signs in recent weeks, the Celtics are continuing to take a cautious approach. Tatum practiced with the Maine Celtics, the organization’s G League affiliate, on Feb. 9 and has reportedly participated in five-on-five scrimmages. Those developments suggested progress, but the team has not committed to a firm timeline.

Tatum himself has avoided setting expectations. Speaking on Feb. 21 in Los Angeles, he emphasized patience in his recovery process, noting the seriousness of the injury and describing the rehab as a long journey. Even once cleared, he is expected to be on a minutes restriction as he works his way back into full NBA conditioning and rhythm.

The Celtics have exceeded preseason expectations while playing without their top scorer for much of the season. His eventual return would provide a significant boost as the playoffs approach, though it is unlikely he will immediately resemble his pre-injury form. For now, the wait continues.
