Jason Kelce warns about Joe Burrow’s return: “The Bengals are going to ruin someone’s playoffs”

Jason Kelce didn’t mince words when discussing Joe Burrow‘s imminent return from injury, warning that the quarterback could “f–k somebody else’s playoff.”

Speaking on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, the former Eagle, admitted that while “The Bengals probably won’t make the playoffs,” Burrow‘s presence could still disrupt another team’s chances of making it as well.

As other AFC contenders prepare for the stretch run, they’ll need to account for a fully healthy Joe Burrow and a team that could become a wild-card spoiler overnight.

Burrow‘s return and Kelce‘s warning

Burrow‘s recovery from a turf toe injury has been closely watched by fans and analysts alike.

After undergoing surgery in September, he was initially expected to miss at least three months, a timeline that would have sidelined him for most of the 2025 season.

Now, with the quarterback cleared to participate in team practices and reportedly set to start Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Bengals suddenly have a player capable of altering outcomes for teams competing for playoff spots, even if Cincinnati itself remains well out of contention.

In recent days, Burrow ramped up his participation, handling more reps with the first team and full 11-on-11 drills.

On November 26, he was officially activated off injured reserve, clearing the final hurdle to suit up.

With the Bengals now at 3-8, the odds of a deep playoff run may be slim, but Burrow‘s activation has rippled far beyond Cincy‘s own fortunes: many teams in the AFC are suddenly facing a tough wild-card opponent they might not have anticipated.

Burrow has returned nearly a month ahead of his recovery timeline. Having practiced with the team and run full-speed drills, the Bengals now have the luxury of plugging him into a lineup that has struggled mightily in his absence.

In a tight AFC where wild-card slots are often decided by a game or two, a revitalized Bengals offense, driven by one of the league’s top quarterbacks, could upend the playoff hopes of teams currently vying for those spots.

When asked ahead of the return, Burrow said: “I’m a football player, and if I get hurt, I’m going to go through the rehab process and I’m going to let everybody know when I feel like I can go out there and play.”

Head coach Zac Taylor remains hopeful about Burrow‘s return, saying, “He’s a great player, it’s exciting to have him back,” before adding, “When you have one of the greatest players in the world coming back, there’s a boost.”

In practice, Burrow looked like his old self, fully cleared, throwing between the lines, and rejoining firstteam reps.
