In the middle of the women’s hockey matchup between Team USA and Sweden which took place on February 16, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) took to X to identify Jason Kelce not by his name, but simply as “Kylie Kelce’s husband.”
The moment immediately went viral as it sparked a wave of fan engagement and a hilarious breakdown on the latest episode of his podcast, the New Heights. For him, the moment was also fun and enjoyed the environment present at the stadium.
“100% the correct way to say it”
While it is true that some athletes let their ego and pride take the lead on moments like this, Jason Kelce found the “husband relation” era with a lot of humor. Speaking on an episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason addressed the CBC description with fun:
“Kylie was there on behalf of NBC and YouTube. I really was just there to have fun and enjoy the Olympics. It was 100 percent the correct way to say it. I thought it was hilarious
However, Jason did not stay there and suggested another name for future broadcasts. Instead of the standard “husband” tag, he said:
“I wanted to tell them, I prefer ‘ball and chain’
The magic of being the “plus one”
This shift in this dynamic was not lost on Travis Kelce, who knows a thing or two about sharing the spotlight with a global superstar… Travis, engaged to Taylor Swift in August 2025, joked with his older brother about being the side element.
“They made sure to call you the plus one, essentially. You’re the plus one, Jason. Sometimes being the plus one is the best feeling in the world
However, while Jason was happy to play the role of the supportive spouse, Kylie Kelce was not as happy and convinced by the CBC’s labeling. On the February 19 episode of her own podcast, Not Gonna Lie, the 33-year-old mother of four called a “foul” on the viral post:
“This is ridiculous. We’ve leaned too far in the opposite direction. You know what’s great? Jason and Kylie Kelce. How about that? That’s cool
Despite her modesty, Kylie’s impact at the Winter Games was undeniable. Working alongside companies like NBC and YouTube, she was on the spotlight for some of the most historic moments in US Olympic history, including Laila Edwards becoming the first Black woman to win a gold medal in Olympic hockey.
