James Rodriguez breaks silence on his future: the blunt message that shakes MLS

On a private jet and with a phrase that has gone around the world, James Rodriguez seems to have revealed the mystery about his next professional destination: the Colombian No. 10 will play in Major League Soccer (MLS), specifically with Minnesota United.

A message that says it all

After weeks of speculation and absolute silence, the Colombian national team captain used his social networks to publish a photograph with the message: “Here we go”. The choice of words is no coincidence; it is the iconic slogan used by journalist Fabrizio Romano to confirm closed signings in the international market.

This move responds to the player’s urgency to regain match fitness. At 34 years of age, James has been a free agent since December 31, when he ended his contract with Leon of Mexico. With the 2026 World Cup just five months away, being without a team was not a viable option for the national team stalwart.

The details of the agreement

Although the club has yet to issue an official statement, international media outlets such as The Athletic confirm that negotiations with Minnesota United are virtually complete.

These are some key points of the operation:

The destination: Minnesota United, a Western Conference team looking for a media and sporting boost.Status: James would arrive as a franchise player, becoming the biggest star in the history of the Loons.Previous performance: The Colombian played 34 matches in Mexico, where he registered five goals and nine assists, proving that his left foot is still in good shape.

James’ need: the World Cup

The concern in the Colombian national team camp was evident. Nestor Lorenzo, the national team’s coach, needs his captain to have quality minutes. James has lost almost a month of pre-season and landing in a league with the physical intensity of MLS will be an important challenge for him to get up to speed.

If completed, the United States will be the 11th country in James’ career and Minnesota United his 13th club. It is the closing of a circle for the man who was the best player of the last Copa America 2024, played precisely on American soil.

What to expect from James in MLS?

James’ arrival in MLS is not only a sporting move, but a marketing coup for a league that continues to add global figures following the ‘Messi effect’.

It is likely that in the next few hours the official announcement and medical examinations will take place. The projection is clear: James is looking for stability and guaranteed minutes to arrive in full condition to the World Cup in June, where he hopes to lead Colombia in what could be his last great performance in a World Cup.
