The tension between Jake Paul and Canelo Álvarez has reached a boiling point. After Canelo dismissed the idea of fighting Paul, calling him a “YouTuber” and insisting he only fights “real fighters,” Paul wasted no time clapping back with what he claims is proof of a signed fight agreement.
On February 7, Canelo posted a video on social media, making it clear that he had no interest in facing Paul. “Hey guys, don’t pay attention to anything this f***** YouTuber says. I just fight real fighters. No f****** around with Canelo. Come on, let’s go.”*
Paul responded aggressively, posting a video of his own in which he displayed what he claimed to be a contract signed by both fighters.
“Oh, Canelo, you p**,”* Paul said before replaying Canelo’s video.
Time to expose him. So we had a signed contract to fight. Here you can see Canelo’s signature and my signature to the right. Claiming he’s not fighting YouTubers? B******. Look at the poster. We were announcing Tuesday, February 11.
While Paul’s claims are bold, there is no way to verify the authenticity of the document he showed.
Paul questions Canelo’s fight choices
Beyond accusing Canelo of backing out, Paul criticized the Mexican star’s fight choices, particularly his decision to face Terence Crawford, a much smaller fighter, instead of taking on David Benavidez.
Claiming he fights real fighters, but he’s fighting Crawford, a 135-pound fighter, and running from a real fighter like David Benavidez, you b***,”* Paul said. “The truth is, you can be bought. You’re a money-hungry squirrel chasing your next nut.
Paul also alleged that Saudi Arabia’s financial influence played a role in canceling their fight.
These sports-washing shady characters are paying you hundreds of millions of dollars to stop our fight from happening because they couldn’t fathom the fact that they can’t create a bigger fight than me and you.
Paul claims his fights are bigger than Canelo’s
Paul continued his rant by claiming that his fights generate more hype than Canelo’s. He also recalled a conversation where Canelo allegedly admitted that his daughter was excited about the potential fight.
“Remember you told my team that your daughter came home and asked if you were fighting Jake Paul? She was all excited. You said that was the first time your daughter had ever asked you about a fight. And you’re screwing over all your Mexican fans by doing your fights in Saudi. It just shows what type of person you are,” Paul said.
He ended his tirade with a final challenge:
“And I promise you one thing, Canelo: Any fight that you do this year, mine will be bigger.”
The war of words continues, but will these two ever settle it in the ring?
