Colombia will be based in Guadalajara, Mexico
FIFA confirmed that the Colombian national team will be based in the city of Guadalajara in Mexico. Guadalajara is one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup, where James Rodriguez’s team will play two of their three group matches.
The decision was made after a technical visit by the Colombian Football Federation and the coaching staff led by the team’s coach Nestor Lorenzo, who evaluated several cities in Mexico. It was the capital of the state of Jalisco that obtained the highest ratings in sports infrastructure, air connectivity and urban logistics. For all these factors, the Colombian team decided to make Guadalajara its training base.
Colombia is in Group K and will play in three cities:
June 17 vs Uzbekistan. Location: Mexico City
June 23 vs Intercontinental Playoff Winner. Location: Guadalajara
June 27 vs Portugal. Location: Miami
Why did the Colombian national team choose Guadalajara?
Guadalajara, in addition to being one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup, has great infrastructure thanks to being one of the most important cities in Mexico. It also has two very popular clubs in the country, Chivas and Atlas, where one of the points that convinced the team was the Atlas AGA Academy.
This is a complex inaugurated in September 2023 that has six professional courts, a clubhouse, a sports science and medicine center, and is internationally recognized with the Architizer A+Awards 2025, an awards program focused on promoting and celebrating the best architecture and spaces of the year.
Guadalajara also offers the Colombian national team a key logistical advantage in the World Cup thanks to the Guadalajara International Airport, which has direct routes to multiple cities in Mexico and the United States, including the air connection to Mexico City and direct flight to Miami.
