Is Nico Hoerner the piece the Dodgers need for a three-peat?

With three months until the start of the regular season, fans and analysts are already wondering what the Los Angeles Dodgers can do to secure the elusive three-peat. There are many proposals, but one in particular involves star second baseman Nico Hoerner.

The Dodgers’ 2015 season was a dream. Their 93-59 record was the fourth best in all of MLB, they won the NL West pennant, and they capped off the year by winning their second consecutive championship.

After dominating the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, the Dodgers have made only a couple of moves to address their few weaknesses.

The first was signing reliever Edwin Diaz from the Mets, and the second was re-signing shortstop Miguel Rojas. Now, some analysts are proposing a truly bold move.

Could the Dodgers land Hoerner?

Although Los Angeles has Hyeseong Kim projected to start at second base in 2026, analysts like Evan Massey of Heavy.com believe that Chicago Cubs star Nico Hoerner is a better option.

While the seven-year veteran isn’t yet available, his services seem redundant after signing Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal.

According to Massey, Hoerner “is a perfect trade target” for the Dodgers. However, a deal for the two-time Gold Glove winner wouldn’t come cheap for the reigning champions.

While some analysts have proposed a package that includes Kim and right-handed pitcher River Ryan in exchange for Hoerner, Massey believes this would only be the starting point of negotiations.

Hoerner’s numbers

Defensively, Hoerner had one of the best years of his career in 2025, which led to him winning his second Gold Glove. Offensively, he hit seven home runs, drove in 61 runs, and posted a .297/.345/.394 slash line.

The Cubs haven’t said anything about Hoerner’s availability; however, fans and analysts are urging the Dodgers’ front office to pick up the phone if the star infielder hits the market.
