Important update on Aaron Judge’s injury: How is his arm doing ahead of the World Baseball Classic?

The New York Yankees are heading into the 2026 MLB season with a roster that excites their fans and with real aspirations of postseason prominence. At the heart of that project is Aaron Judge, the team’s captain and the franchise’s main offensive linchpin, around whom the club’s expectations are built.

At 33 years of age, Judge is going through one of the best moments of his career. The right-handed slugger is coming off winning his third MVP award in 2025, a campaign that also included his seventh All-Star selection, his fifth Silver Slugger and the first batting title of his career. With elite numbers in both power and consistency, the Yankees captain remains one of the most complete players in the league.

The elbow injury was Judge’s main obstacle in 2025

Despite his enormous offensive output, last season was not without its difficulties. A right elbow flexor strain affected his ability to throw from the outfield and limited his defensive impact, a key aspect of his game. This situation led opponents to be more aggressive on the bases, aware that the outfielder’s arm was not 100%.The injury also raised concerns within the organization, especially considering that Judge is set to take on the role of captain of Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. His decision not to undergo surgery left some doubts about the immediate future.

Aaron Boone delivers encouraging update on Judge

However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone offered a positive update on the physical condition of his captain. According to the strategist, Judge’s right elbow “is doing really well” and his progress during the winter throwing program has been more than satisfactory.

Boone said that as Judge increases the intensity of his sessions, his arm “looks great,” news that is a relief to both New York and the U.S. team. Regaining strength and accuracy in his throws is critical for the outfielder to once again be a complete threat on both sides of the game.

The Yankees need Judge healthy to dream of the World Series

Looking ahead to 2026, the Yankees need Aaron Judge to be in top physical shape if they are to return to the World Series. As he approaches 35, his health becomes a determining factor, not only because of his offensive impact, but also because of the defensive flexibility he offers when he can stay in the outfield on a regular basis.

With a competitive core and key reinforcements such as Cody Bellinger, New York knows that every detail counts. A healthy Judge, with his arm fully recovered, can make the difference in a season where expectations are once again sky high in the Bronx.
