Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most vocals NBA players and his skills match his knowledge of the game like none other.
The Greece native who won consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player Awards in 2019 and 2020 had an interesting reaction to one of the most, if not the most, shocking trade in the league’s history.
We are talking about the move that sent Slovenia‘s Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for All-Star Anthony Davis and other players, in a trade that shook the NBA and is going to have a hug impact in the Western Conference.
Giannis predicts NBA’s next major trades
Giannis Antetokounmpo talked to the media after finding out that Luka Doncic got traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks forward didn’t hold back when it came to speaking out about some exciting moves that could raise up the NBA‘s excitement.
“Okay, let’s say something funny because I took it and spoke very serious… Now that a European will be, I believe, the face of the Lakers, this is something new for Europe. It’s never happened before. We had Pau Gasol, obviously he was a great player. And how do you say – Vujacic? Sasha Vujacic? – great guy, one of my close friends, but I mess up his name all the time. Now, I just love it.”
“The Greek Freak” went on to make some bold predictions. “I want Luka to the Lakers, I want Jokic to the Knicks. I want all the Europeans to go to all the big markets to see something incredible. This is what I want. This is my dream. But again, I wish both teams the best of luck, wish all the players best of luck with their journey moving forward.”
LeBron’s stance on playing with Luka will be tested
The NBA is still reeling after the Los Angeles Lakers found a way to acquire superstar guard Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks. In a trade nobody saw coming, the Lakers sent Anthony Davis to Dallas as part of a three-team deal that will see Doncic don the famous purple-and-gold for the foreseeable future — setting up the Lakers for success whenever LeBron James steps away from the game of basketball.
While James has insisted that he wants to finish his career in Los Angeles, many around the NBA are questioning how the 40-year-old fits next to the 25-year-old Doncic, a ball-dominant scorer who is viewed as a likely MVP someday.
While the Mavericks‘ concerns over Doncic‘s conditioning could eventually prove well-founded, many around the league aren’t buying it yet — and three days before the 2024/25 NBA trade deadline, speculation is ramping up that the Lakers aren’t done remaking their roster yet.
