Olivia Dunne once again proved she’s not above being kind to her fans as the LSU Tigers‘ star gymnast invited someone to talk to her, despite the fan pretending to be her boyfriend Paul Skenes, the MLB’s Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher.
The exchange took place on TikTok just moments after the national champion uploaded a video of herself performing a handstand as her pet dog runs through her arms, before the pup and owner affectionately embraced each other.
Yet fan one seemed to be running their own agenda independent of the video by writing, “I am real Paul,” under a handle claiming to be the 22-year-old baseball star, who won the National League Rookie of the Year in 2024.
“Thank you so much for your kind words and support,” Dunne posted in response. “It truly means a lot to me.
“If you’d like to chat more privately, feel free to send me a direct friend request. I’d love to hear from you.”
It was a light-hearted response to a light-hearted moment, although it’s unclear if the user ever actually tried to talk to the most marketable female athlete in the entire NCAA.
How did Dunne and Skenes meet?
Dunne and Skenes manage to make their relationship work despite being long distance, as the MLB star forges his career a distance 1143 miles away in Pennsylvania shortly after he was selected as the overall first pick in the 2023 draft.
But how did it all begin? The pair met on campus at Louisiana State University sometime in 2023 before going public with their romance and it was actually the gymnast who made the first move on the 6ft 6in pitcher, inviting him for a drink.
“I would kind of see him around,” and I was like, ‘Who is this tall guy – this tall mysterious man,'” Dunne recalled to Flau’jae Johnson on the Best of Both Worlds podcast of her beau. “I literally had no clue who he was, but I would just see him around.
“I was like, ‘There he is. He’s cute.’ He didn’t even have a mustache yet.”
