Emmanuel Acho has shared his unconventional perspective on prenuptial agreements, directly weighing in on the recent breakup of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and his fiancée Sarah Jane Ramos, an issue that has stirred widespread media speculation.
Prescott and Ramos reportedly called off their planned wedding in Lake Como, Italy, after tensions escalated during their joint bachelor and bachelorette parties in the Bahamas.
The sudden cancellation sparked rumors that a prenuptial agreement may have been one of the factors contributing to the split.
Many fans quickly assumed the prenup played a role in the breakup, although insiders have indicated the couple had experienced months of strain before the decision was made.
Regardless of the exact cause, Acho publicly shared his stance on prenuptial agreements, offering a unique analogy to explain why he personally opposes them.
“I’m anti-prenup,” Acho said. “[If] a contingency plan for marriage, you shouldn’t be married. If you need to protect yourself from your future partner, who you have to lay in bed with every night, the potential mother or father of your children, you shouldn’t be marrying them.
“A prenup to me is like a seatbelt in an airplane. If you need that seatbelt in an airplane, you’ve got way bigger issues than the seatbelt. Airplane going down… And I got money, I’m actually [still] anti-prenup.”
However, fellow former NFL star LeSean McCoy strongly disagreed with the comparison, quickly pointing out that financial protection in marriage is more similar to carrying insurance for unexpected situations.
“Do you look to get in a car accident? [But] you have car insurance?” McCoy responded. “I’ve got security [with a prenup], the same way people got car insurance.
“You got a car, you drive every day, every time, and if I get in a car accident, I’m protected… To make all that type of money, and you see times when people get divorced, and [one] person gets half?”
Despite the public debate, Prescott has remained silent about the breakup, leaving fans and media outlets to speculate about the real reasons behind the separation. Meanwhile, a representative for Ramos told People that the pair are “both heartbroken that they’re not getting married,” highlighting the emotional toll of the split.
The couple shares two young daughters, Margaret Jane Rose, 2, and Aurora Rayne, nine months. Prescott and Ramos began dating in September 2023 before becoming engaged in October 2024. Their wedding ceremony had been scheduled for April 10, 2026, in Lake Como.
An email reportedly sent to around 250 invited guests informed them of the cancellation, apologizing for the inconvenience and explaining that the decision was made with heavy hearts, showing a direct and personal effort to communicate the change to family and friends.
What happened between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren?
During the discussion, McCoy also referenced the high-profile divorce between golf legend Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren, using it as an example of why financial safeguards like prenuptial agreements can matter.
McCoy pointed to the aftermath of Woods‘ adultery scandal, which ultimately led to the end of the couple’s marriage. Reports at the time suggested Nordegren received between $100 million and $110 million in the settlement, securing her financial future after the split.
Woods and Nordegren had two children together and were once considered one of the most visible couples in sports and entertainment. Their relationship began to unravel in late 2009 following a car accident outside their Florida home.
The incident triggered widespread media attention and led to the exposure of multiple extramarital affairs involving Woods. The revelations caused a major scandal that damaged his public image and significantly impacted his career at the time.
In August 2010, the couple finalized their divorce in Florida, with the court citing an “irretrievably broken” marriage. Both Woods and Nordegren later emphasized that their primary focus moving forward would be co-parenting their children, Sam and Charlie.
Following the divorce, custody arrangements and financial terms were settled privately, allowing both parties to move forward while maintaining a level of privacy for their family life. Although the specific financial details were never publicly confirmed, reports indicated that Nordegren was well compensated through the split, with the prenuptial agreement ultimately working in her favor in that particular case.
