Travis Kelce turned down multimillion-dollar offers to play alongside Patrick Mahomes again

Travis Kelce’s return was excellent news for Kansas City Chiefs fans. Amid rumors of his potential departure to other teams, the star tight end ultimately decided to wear red and gold for another year, even reportedly rejecting better offers from other franchises.

The 13-year veteran has been flirting with retirement for some time now. However, this year the wait for his decision took a more dramatic turn.

This time, interest from teams like the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants caused tension among fans and the media alike. It was only this week that the matter was settled.

The Chiefs secured the return of their star with a one-year, $12 million guaranteed contract, which can reach a maximum of $15 million. However, some insiders claim Kelce lost money in the process.

Kelce had better offers from other teams

“It’s been a roller coaster for Travis Kelce,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport told, via Newsweek, noting that in his 13-year career, Kelce has only ever played for the Chiefs.

However, the three-time Super Bowl champion became a free agent at the end of the 2025 season. Given the silence from Kelce and the Chiefs, several teams were preparing to make a move.

He was expected to get significant interest that likely would’ve put him at the top of the tight-end market, based on how he played last year. A Pro Bowler, certainly playing near the top of his game.

However, “That’s not really what Travis Kelce is about,” the insider added. “He’s turning down more money to stay in Kansas City, to be loyal, to be with Patrick Mahomes, and to continue having another shot at the Super Bowl.”

How much gas does Kelce have left in the tank?

Not counting his rookie year, which he missed due to injury, last season was one of Kelce’s three worst in terms of numbers:

  • 76 receptions
  • 108 targets
  • 851 yards
  • 5 touchdowns

Despite this, the 11-time Pro Bowler played in all 17 Chiefs games, he still has the same dedication in training and the same fire when he steps onto the gridiron.

It’s no surprise that several teams were willing to outbid the Chiefs to poach him, but as Rapaport said: For Kelce, it’s not about money, it’s about legacy.
