Eagles could solve their offensive crisis with Mike McDaniel

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most difficult coaching searches of the Nick Sirianni era after announcing a long-anticipated change at offensive coordinator.

On Tuesday, Sirianni confirmed that Kevin Patullo will not return as the team’s offensive coordinator after a 2025 campaign that saw the unit regress and sputter down the stretch, culminating in a wild-card loss at home.

The move continues a pattern that has defined Philadelphia’s recent coaching structure, with the team now preparing to hire its fifth offensive coordinator in as many seasons.

Stability has been elusive, even as the roster remains stacked with elite talent on the offensive side of the ball.

“I have decided to make a change at offensive coordinator. I met with Kevin today to discuss the difficult decision, as he is a great coach who has my utmost respect.

“He has been integral to the team’s success over the last five years, not only to the on-field product but behind the scenes as a valued leader for our players and organization.

He concluded, “I have no doubt he will continue to have a successful coaching career. Ultimately, when we fall short of our goals that responsibility lies on my shoulders.”

The Eagles‘ offensive identity in 2025 often felt constrained, particularly for a unit featuring Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley.

Around the league, creativity and adaptability have become essential traits for successful play callers, and Philadelphia’s front office appears intent on finding a coordinator who can fully maximize its personnel.

A search defined by urgency and opportunity

Timing may define the Eagles‘ pursuit as much as philosophy. Several high profile coaches are already drawing interest across the league, and Philadelphia will need to act decisively to secure its preferred candidate.

Among the most intriguing names available is Mike McDaniel, the former Miami Dolphins head coach and one of the NFL’s most respected offensive architects.

McDaniel‘s résumé speaks loudly. During his tenure with the Dolphins, his offenses consistently ranked among the league leaders in yards and efficiency, blending speed, spacing, and misdirection into a system that stressed defenses horizontally and vertically.

League observers often credited McDaniel for pushing schematic innovation forward, particularly in how he deployed motion and matchup creation.

Reports indicate McDaniel is interviewing for multiple head coaching vacancies while also drawing interest for offensive coordinator roles.

That level of demand reflects how highly he is regarded in coaching circles. For the Eagles, the appeal is obvious.

Pairing McDaniel‘s system with the Eagles‘ physical offensive line and versatile skill players could unlock dimensions that were missing last season.

Other credible alternatives include Kliff Kingsbury, who would bring Air Raid principles refined by NFL experience.

Brian Daboll has a proven track record of quarterback development and adaptive game planning.

Greg Roman offers a run game pedigree that could further elevate Barkley‘s impact. Each option presents a different vision for the offense.

Ultimately, whoever the Eagles hire may shape the remainder of Sirianni‘s tenure.
