Los Angeles Dodgers seemed to be really interested in young German Brendan Donovan, the St. Louis Cardinals left fielder, this offseason. However, the two-time MLB champion has decided to step aside from the bidding and look at other prospects before the start of next season.

With these latest rumors, Donovan would be left with a clear path for some of the other contenders for him to more easily secure the services of the German.

Dodgers forget about Brendan Donovan and focus on Cody Bellinger

The Los Angeles Dodgers are ready to revolutionize the 2026 MLB season. In this period of moves, the team has acted aggressively, setting the tone in strategic decision-making, all in relation to St. Louis Cardinals player Brendan Donovan.

According to a report from The Athletic, the interest that the Dodgers had in Donovan has waned considerably, as the team has reportedly decided to pull out of the race for the 28-year-old German to focus on a more high-profile signing and considered by many MLB analysts to be one of the best free agents out there at the moment, as the two-time champions would be looking to focus 100% on signing Cody BellingerBellinger has been the desire of many teams in this free agency season and the franchise commanded by Shohei Ohtani joins the bidding as a real prospect to consider for the 30-year-old.

What other teams are looking to take Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals?

The San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Mariners are the two teams that will continue to bid for the St. Louis Cardinals player. The Seattle club has a vacancy at second base, which is Donovan’s primary position, where they believe he could provide great play

For the Giants, signing Donovan would be beneficial to have a player of his quality and security, after last season San Francisco had an OPS of .616.

Donovan was called up for the first time this season to the All-Star Game and had an offensive line of .287/.353/.422. The German is a versatile player, who can also play shortstop and left field. According to rumors, the Cardinals are not closed to give him as part of a trade or let him go for a large amount of money.
