Novak Djokovic, something that had seemed likely due to the physical problems he experienced during his matches at the Indian Wells Masters 1000, will not take part in the Miami Open (May 18-29). Djokovic, who will turn 39 on May 22, has cited discomfort in his right shoulder as the reason for withdrawing from the tournament in which he was defending finalist points. He lost the title match to Jakub Mensik. As a result, he will drop 650 points in the rankings and lose his place on the ATP podium to Alexander Zverev.
The German, who will move immediately behind Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, reached the round of 16 in last year’s edition, worth 100 points. Zverev thus becomes the third seed in the Miami draw, which will be held this Monday at the Hard Rock Stadium facilities.
Roland Garros as the objective
Djokovic, who continues to focus on playing the Grand Slams and representing his country, has set himself the challenge of arriving at Roland Garros in the best possible condition, despite the difficulty that seven best-of-five-set matches on clay pose for him. For now, he appears on the entry list for the Monte Carlo tournament (April 5-12).
