Carlos Alcaraz: “I’ve never seen Medvedev play like that”

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, eliminated on Saturday in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, said he had never seen his opponent, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, play at this level. “What is starting to tire me a little bit is always having that target on my back. Like I said, I’ve never seen Daniil play like that. But I have to accept it. I have to accept it and move on,” Alcaraz said in a press conference after the elimination.

Medvedev, ranked 11th in the world, defeated Alcaraz (No. 1) 6-3, 7-6(3) in 1 hour and 37 minutes. The Russian will face Italian Jannik Sinner (No. 2) in the final.

“I’m playing great tennis. And I think I’m showing the players and the people that if they want to beat me, they have to play at their best level for an hour and a half or two hours in every match,” said the Spaniard, who is unbeaten in 2026.

“I have to accept it and move on, and assume that from now on everyone is going to play like that against me, so I have to be prepared for that,” he added.
