Declan Rice mocks Chelsea fans after assisting the goal winner for Arsenal

Declan Rice let his play do the talking Sunday as Arsenal F.C. secured a 2-1 win over Chelsea F.C. at Emirates Stadium to restore a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

In the 66th minute, with the score tied and tension rising, Rice walked over to take a corner in front of a section packed with Chelsea supporters. As he placed the ball, several Blues fans shouted at him, with some visibly making obscene gestures.

The England international did not react. Instead, he delivered a driven corner into the heart of the penalty area. Left unmarked, Jurriën Timber met it with a powerful header that put Arsenal back in front for good. The moment captured Rice‘s composure under pressure. Rather than engage with the crowd, he produced a decisive assist in a match that once again highlighted Arsenal‘s dominance from set pieces.

A gritty win

The game itself was tightly contested from the start. Arsenal opened the scoring in the 21st minute when William Saliba nodded home his first league goal of the season following a Bukayo Saka corner that caused chaos in the box. Chelsea responded just before halftime when a corner from Reece James led to an own goal by Piero Hincapie, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.

Chelsea began the second half brightly, forcing multiple saves from goalkeeper David Raya. But Arsenal’s ability on dead balls proved decisive. Rice‘s corner to Timber marked the club’s 16th Premier League goal from a corner this season, tying the all-time single-season record with nine matches still to play.

The match shifted further in Arsenal‘s favor when Pedro Neto was shown a red card with 20 minutes remaining. Even with the man advantage, however, Arsenal needed strong defensive work and key stops from Raya to close out the victory.

Arsenal dominates Chelsea in the league

Late efforts from Moises Caicedo and Alejandro Garnacho threatened to spoil the afternoon, but the Spanish goalkeeper preserved the lead with a pair of critical saves. A late Chelsea goal was disallowed for offside, allowing Arsenal to extend their unbeaten league run against the Blues to 11 matches.

Rice’s response to the crowd added a layer of intensity to an already heated London rivalry. His assist was not just technically sharp but symbolically important, reinforcing Arsenal’s edge in big moments. The Gunners have never lost a Premier League match to Chelsea while leading the table, and Sunday’s win continued that trend.

With nine games remaining, Arsenal remain firmly in control of the title race. Next up is a midweek trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, followed by FA Cup and Champions League fixtures. For now, though, the focus remains on a derby victory defined by set pieces, resilience and a midfielder who answered taunts with a pinpoint delivery.
