Dave Roberts announces which star will not be in the Dodgers’ Opening Day 2026 lineup

The start of the season and the defense of the World Series has begun with bad news for the Dodgers, as it was Dave Roberts himself who confirmed an unexpected injury that changes his plans for Opening Day 2026.

In the framework of MLB spring training, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed news that will force the team to readjust its strategic plans: Tommy Edman will not be available for the time being.

Tommy Edman will miss the Dodgers series

Despite initial projections that the player would be ready in time for the start of the regular schedule, the reality at the training complex has dictated otherwise. Roberts emphasized that both management and the coaching staff have made a conscious decision not to rush his return.

The goal is to ensure that Edman is 100% fit before stepping on the diamond, thus avoiding long-term complications that could jeopardize his participation in the postseason.

The Dodgers say it is a sensitive loss, but if they rush him now, it could be worse in the future and it is better to do things calmly so as not to risk the player’s health.

More problems for the Dodgers

Edman’s absence leaves an immediate void at second base and forces the Dodgers to explore their bench depth. But the challenges don’t end there for Roberts. The team is also keeping a close eye on the situation of starter Blake Snell, whose preparation has been unusually slow, raising doubts about whether he will be able to make his first scheduled start of the year.

In this scenario, the organization is relying on the resilience of its roster to overcome early adversity. While Edman continues his rehabilitation process, the Dodgers will look to their rotation for the necessary options to maintain contender status from the first pitch of the season.
