The Dallas Cowboys pulled off a stunning 21-point comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles, securing a 24-21 victory at AT&T Stadium. But quarterback Dak Prescott emphasized that the team cannot rest on their laurels as the NFL playoff race tightens.
Against the Eagles, Prescott had a career night, throwing for 354 yards and three total touchdowns while surpassing Tony Romo to become the Cowboys‘ all-time leader in passing yards.
Despite the personal milestone and team comeback, Prescott immediately shifted focus to the challenges ahead.
Heading into Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, Prescott delivered a sobering message about the team’s postseason outlook.
“We got to win every game at this point,” Prescott said during the pre-game media briefing.
His comments gave a startling reality that the Cowboys, who currently sit at 5-5-1 and occupy the 10th seed in the NFC, are now facing. They are outside the playoff picture with just six games remaining and may struggle to force their way in.
Focusing on their difficult path
As reported by The Athletic, Prescott made it clear that Dallas cannot afford to celebrate past victories.
“The Philly game doesn’t mean anything right now,” he said. “Nothing that has happened up to this point really means anything other than it has put us in position to be must-win games.”
“We’re not gonna necessarily just go out there and do that on Thursday,” Prescott explained.
“That’s through the week, just the way that we prepare, the way that we’re communicating, we’re taking the necessary steps to get our bodies right and play our best game on a short week.”
The Cowboys‘ road to the playoffs remains difficult. According to FOX Sports, Dallas‘ postseason odds increased from eight percent before the Eagles game to 13 percent following the comeback.
A victory over the Chiefs would raise their chances to 24 percent, and a subsequent win over the Detroit Lions could bring them close to a 50-50 proposition.
Prescott stressed that the team is focused on preparation and process rather than celebrating individual wins. “We’ve got the guys, we’ve got the plan, we’ve got the process intact, and we’re gonna give it our best and feel very confident in us,” he said.
A crucial matchup with the Chiefs
The Thanksgiving Day matchup against Kansas City will be one of the most important games for Dallas this season.
With the playoff picture still very much in flux, every game has become a must-win scenario. For a team capable of historic comebacks but still fighting for consistency, the focus is now entirely on execution and preparation rather than past glory.
As the Cowboys approach the final stretch of the season, the pressure is on Prescott and his teammates to maintain their momentum while navigating one of the toughest stretches of their schedule.
With playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Dallas will need every ounce of focus, leadership, and skill to turn their late-season resurgence into a postseason berth. Prescott’s words, though, are a good start.
