Cowboys fans ask where superstar CeeDee Lamb is: Are his struggles due to pressure from Pickens or a post-contract slump?

The 2025 NFL season has taken an unexpected turn for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is experiencing the worst year of his career. With seven official drops tying him for the second-most in the league, Lamb’s performance has raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike. Currently with 44 receptions, 632 yards and 2 TD, Lamb is on pace for 68 catches, 977 yards, and a mere 3 touchdowns-his lowest statistical output since entering the NFL in 2020-questions swirl about whether this downturn stems from pressure due to the arrival of former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens or a natural dip following his lucrative contract extension.

As the Cowboys sit at 5-5-1, the scrutiny on Lamb intensifies, especially with the postseason fading from view. Lamb’s contract, a four-year, $136 million deal signed in August 2024 with $100 million guaranteed, made him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league. This offseason, the Cowboys restructured it, converting $25 million of his 2025 salary into a signing bonus to ease cap constraints, a move that lowered his 2025 cap hit by $20 million but raised future years’ burdens.

Some speculate this financial security might have softened his edge, a common narrative for players post-big payday. His current pace-well below his 2023 Pro Bowl season of 135 catches, 1,749 yards, and 12 touchdowns-supports this theory. Has the weight of expectations or complacency crept in after securing his financial future? Alternatively, the emergence of George Pickens could be exerting psychological pressure. Pickens, with 67 catches, 1054 yards, and 8 touchdowns in 11 games, has revitalized Dallas’ offense, drawing comparisons to Lamb’s earlier dominance.

Dallas needs to trust Lamb again

Reports from r/cowboys on Reddit suggest Lamb and Pickens missed curfew together before a game, hinting at off-field distractions. Could Lamb feel threatened by Pickens’ rising star, especially after their shared Las Vegas outing? Lamb’s denial of being impaired-“I know how to hold my liquor”-adds intrigue, but his on-field drops-tied with George Pickens league-wide-fuel speculation of a confidence slump. The data tells a mixed story.

Lamb has an opportunity, but his 2 touchdowns and 8 drops signal inefficiency. Yet, his 2024 adjustment to a restructured deal and Pickens’ spotlight might amplify pressure. Is this a temporary dip for a proven talent, or a sign of deeper issues? As the Cowboys face the Kansas City Chiefs this week, Lamb’s response-on and off the field-will be telling. At this juncture, the truth likely lies in a blend of contract comfort and external competition, with his legacy hanging in the balance.
