Conor Benn’s win over Chris Eubank Jr. could trigger Canelo Alvarez fight talks

Saturday brought forth another highly anticipated boxing bout, this time overseas in the United Kingdom. For the second time in 2025, Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. squared off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. This time around, Benn got his revenge.

After falling in convincing fashion in April, Benn put together a much better performance on Saturday, winning by unanimous decision. While the two didn’t fight for anything other than a notch on their record and bragging rights, Benn may have knocked Eubank Jr. out of contention to fight Canelo Alvarez. And in the process, he may have put his name in the front of the line.

Is the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez fight now done and dusted?

A fight between Alvarez and Eubank has been talked about for quite a while now. It became a possibility that a victory by the veteran this weekend would set in motion the Canelo fight, especially since Alvarez doesn’t seem to have a ton of options at the moment. But fighting Eubank coming off of a loss now wouldn’t be the best optics for Alvarez.

Fighting Benn might be, though. Benn was undefeated until his loss to Eubank earlier this year. A lengthy suspension took him out of form before returning from the layoff in September of 2023. Wins over middling competition didn’t get him right enough before the first Eubank fight. He didn’t exactly look like his former self in the second Eubank fight, but a win gives him some momentum going forward.

Benn would have to move up in weight to fight Canelo, something that Terence Crawford didn’t scoff at in any way. Benn would bring about a large audience from across the pond in a bout against Canelo.
