David Benavidez says he’s moving on from a fight with Canelo Alvarez

David Benavidez, the undefeated super middleweight boxer, says he is ready to move on from a potential showdown with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, even though fans continue to clamor for the fight.

Speaking candidly with sports commentator Michael Babcock, Benavidez acknowledged that despite years of calling out Canelo Alvarez, the bout has yet to materialize.

The 31-0 fighter admitted that while he is ready to compete whenever the opportunity arises, he is beginning to accept that the fight may not happen on his timeline.

“I feel like I’ve moved on, but I don’t think the people have moved on, to be honest with you,” Benavidez said. “I always have hope that the fight is going to happen because the fight is too big – it’s too big a fight to leave it on the table.”

Benavidez remains prepared

Despite the delays, Benavidez insists he is fully ready to step into the ring if Canelo Alvarez agrees.

The Mexican fighter, whose last bout ended in a loss to Terence “Bud” Crawford in September 2025, reportedly turned down a $150 million offer to face Benavidez, fueling further frustration for the undefeated contender.

“I’m 100% ready for whenever the opportunity comes,” Benavidez said.

“Hopefully Canelo Alvarez wants to get that fight because this fight is not for us. This is for the fans at the end of the day, and we need to give the fans of boxing what they need.”

Fan anticipation and future prospects

The boxing community remains eager for a clash between Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez, seeing it as a potentially historic matchup in the super middleweight division.

Yet, with negotiations stalling and Benavidez focusing on staying active, the fight may still be some time away.

For now, Benavidez appears ready to pursue other opportunities in the ring while keeping the mega-fight on his radar, reminding fans that a potential matchup is always possible if circumstances align.

Although Benavidez is moving on mentally, he continues to honor the fans’ anticipation, emphasizing that the spectacle would ultimately belong to them and the sport they support.
